MURFREESBORO, N.C. – The Chowan Baseball team picked up the first two games of the series against St. Augustine's on Senior Day on Saturday.

Harry Markotay tallied four hits to lead the Hawks at the plate with a double and a triple.

Robert Williams and Marquise Lanier tallied three hits each.  Julian Lopez inched closer to the single-season stolen base record with two on the day.  Lopez sits with 23 for the season.

Cody Smith dealt a complete game shutout in the opener tossing 7.0 innings and struck out 13.

Vinny Puma picked up the win in relief in game two tossing 2.1 innings of shutout ball.  Will Edwards took the no-decision after 4.2 innings allowing four runs off seven hits.

HOW IT HAPPENED

Game One: Chowan 7, St. Augustine's 0

The Hawks jumped on the scoreboard in the bottom of the second inning as Trent Brosdahl singled to right center.  Brosdahl would move to third on a failed pickoff attempt before coming home on a Robert Williams single.

The score would hold until the bottom of the fifth when the Hawks exploded for four runs on just one hit.  Harry Markotay tripled to right field with one out to spark the rally.  Julian Lopez would get hit by a pitch and swipe second.  Nick Rose drew a walk to load the bases.  A wild pitch allowed Markotay to score.  Trent Brosdahl drew a walk to load the bases again before Robert Williams and Tyler Jones drew the bases loaded walk for two more runs.  Brosdahl would score on a passed ball in the inning to push the lead to 5-0.

Harry Markotay would spark another rally in the sixth drawing the lead-off walk.  Marquise Lanier singled to center before Markotay and Lanier moved up 90 feet on a passed ball.  Julian Lopez hit a sacrifice fly and Nick Rose produced a RBI ground out to extend the lead to 7-0.

Cody Smith notched back-to-back strikeouts to end the contest.

Game Two: Chowan 5, St. Augustine's 4

The Falcons scored early plating two runs on three hits in the opening half inning of the contest.

Chowan responded with three runs in the bottom of the frame as Harry Markotay benefited from miscommunication on a high pop up to notch a double without the ball leaving the infield.  Marquise Lanier would produce a double before back-to-back sacrifice flies by Julian Lopez and Nick Rose evened the score at 2-all.  Trent Brosdahl would draw a walk and come around to score on Robert Williams' double to left.

St. Augustine's would rally in the top of the fifth to take a 4-3 lead on four hits in the inning.  Vinny Puma would come in to pitch and stop the Falcons from scoring any more runs.

The Hawks countered with the tying and eventual winning runs in the bottom of the fifth inning.  Harry Markotay beat out an infield single to start the inning.  Marquise Lanier singled through the left side of the infield before the two performed a double steal.  Julian Lopez hit a sacrifice fly to tie the contest.  Lanier would trot home on a wild pitch to give the Hawks the 5-4 lead.
