MOUNT OLIVE, N.C. – The Chowan Baseball team was unable to mount a comeback as the Hawks fell to Mount Olive on the road, 6-3, on Tuesday afternoon.

Tyler Jones went 3-4 at the plate with a double in the loss. Marquise Lanier picked up two hits and a stolen base.
Julian Lopez drove in two runs on the evening.
Vinny Puma allowed one hit and struck out six in 3.2 innings of relief. Josh Vincent (5-2) took the loss on the mound.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Mount Olive scored three runs in the bottom of the opening inning after back-to-back doubles put the Trojans on the board early.
Nick Rose picked up the first hit for the Hawks in the top of the second inning with a base knock. Trent Brosdahl was hit by a pitch to follow but a double play ended the threat.
UMO added to their lead in the bottom of the fifth as two base hits to right field put the pressure on the Hawks. The Trojans cleared the bases with a three-run home run to extend their lead to 6-0.
Vinny Puma came in and shut the door with back-to-back punchouts.
In the top of the sixth, Marquise Lanier ripped a double down the left field line to spark a two-out rally. Julian Lopez recorded a base knock over the second baseman's head to single home Lanier to cut into the deficit 6-1.
Trent Brosdahl opened the seventh inning with a single to left field but a double play ended the attempted rally for the Hawks.
In the bottom of the inning, Marquise Lanier took away a hit with his second diving grab of the contest to turn away the Trojans' rally in the inning.
Harry Markotay tallied a one-out double in the eighth inning before Marquise Lanier moved Markotay up 90 feet with a single through the left side of the infield. Lanier would swipe second to put both runners in scoring position. Julian Lopez reached on a fielder's choice to score Markotay to cut into the deficit 6-2.
Robert Williams drew a one-out walk in the ninth inning before Tyler Jones put himself in scoring position with a double to left. Harley Davidson added a run with a RBI groundout but fell 6-3.
