HOW IT HAPPENED

Game One: Chowan 12, Virginia Union 3 (5)

Virginia Union got on the board in the opening half inning as an error allowed two runners in scoring position before a sacrifice fly brought home a run.

The Hawks responded in the bottom half of the inning as a wild pitch allowed Kris Neal to reach on the drop third strike.  Neal would move up to second on a wild pitch before Haley Cooper doubled and moved to third on the throw home to knot the contest at 1-all.  Lindsey Stigler brought home Cooper on a sacrifice fly.  Beth Walker was hit by a pitch and moved to third on wild pitches.  Miranda Glover would single home Walker for the 3-1 lead.

The Hawks would explode for eight runs in the bottom of the third inning on only three hits.  Lindsey Stigler and Beth Walker drew full-count walks to start the inning.  Brittany Parson reached on a fielder's choice to load the bases. Miranda Glover continued the trend with a bloop single before EmaRae Flores unloaded the bases with a grand slam.

Kris Neal continued the inning with a walk and Haley Cooper was hit by a pitch before Lindsey Stigler hit a three run shot to center to push the lead to 11-1.

Donya Salman brought home Miranda Glover, who doubled earlier in the fourth inning, to push the advantage to 12-1.

VUU looked to rally in the fifth inning as three hits and a free pass produced two runs to trim the deficit to 12-3.  Shannon Buchanan closed the door with a fly out to end the game.

Game Two: Chowan 9, Virginia Union 1 (6)

Virginia Union looked to get on the board in the top of the first inning as a two out walk threatened the scoreboard.  Miscommunication between the infield and outfield allowed a ball to drop on a bloop single but a heads up play by Haley Cooper nailed the runner at the plate to keep the Panthers off the scoreboard.

Kris Neal sparked a rally for the Hawks in the bottom half of the inning drawing a walk to lead off the inning.  Neal would steal second and moved to third on the errant throw.  Haley Cooper doubled to left center to score the opening tally.  Lindsey Stigler singled down the third base line to bring home Cooper.  A double play ended the threat with the Hawks up 2-0.

Chowan continued the momentum into the bottom of the second as the Hawks extended their lead to 6-0.  EmaRae Flores and Donya Salman reached on the free pass before Mackenzie Taggart loaded the bases with a single.  Kris Neal singled through the left side of the infield to bring home Flores and Salman.  Haley Cooper drew a walk to load the bases again.  Beth Walker doubled down the left field line to plate two more runs to lead 6-0.

The Panthers were able to break up the shutout as an error in the inning allowed an unearned run to score.

Kris Neal pushed the advantage back to six, 7-1, with a solo home run to dead center field in the third inning.

In the bottom of the sixth inning, Haley Cooper singled and swiped second before coming around to score on Beth Walker's base hit.  Walker advanced to second on the throw home and to third on a wild pitch.  Brittany Parson produced the "walk-off" hit with a base knock up the middle to take the run-rule contest 9-1.
