INSIDE THE BOXSCORE
Ryan Gallaccio pitched 7.0 strong innings allowing three runs after scattering eight hits and striking out eight.
The Hawks' bats were quiet mustering up four hits. Harry Markotay, Trent Brosdahl, Julian Lopez, and Tyler Jones recorded one hit apiece. Lopez and Nick Rose tallied a walk.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Nick Rose was the first base runner for either side as Rose reached on an error by the left fielder, but was stranded at second base.
After a quick first inning of work by starter, Ryan Gallaccio, the Pacers posted three straight doubles to take a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the second inning.
Harry Markotay picked up the first hit for the Hawks in the top of the third on a slow chopper on the infield. Marquise Lanier followed Markotay by reaching on an error with two outs before Trent Brosdahl hit a slow roller through the right side of the infield to score the opening tally for the Hawks.
Julian Lopez picked up a hit in the top of the fourth inning and moved to second on a failed pick-off attempt. Back-to-back groundouts ended the threat.
A two-out single and stolen base put the Pacers in position to score. A blooper out of the reach of Nicholas Lees and Harry Markotay allowed the Pacers to scratch across the run to lead 3-1 in the fourth.
The middle innings did not produce much for either team as Ryan Gallaccio settled in on the hill.
In the top of the seventh, miscommunication by the middle infielders allowed Tyler Jones to reach on a pop-up that dropped right behind the mound. Harry Markotay reached on a muffed throw at first to push Jones into scoring position. The Hawks were unable to close the gap in the inning down 3-1.
USC Aiken tacked on an insurance run in the bottom of the eighth inning to extend lead 4-1.
Julian Lopez started the top of the ninth with a lead-off walk. The Pacers were able to pull off a double play to end the contest.
