Brosdahl Walks-Off Warriors In Extras For CU Baseball

MURFREESBORO, N.C. – Trent Brosdahl hit a walk-off double down the left field line to pick up the rubber match contest against regionally ranked East Stroudsburg in the 13th inning on Sunday afternoon. Hawks take the series 2-1.

Trent Brosdahl picked up two doubles on the afternoon including the game-winner.  Brosdahl plated three RBI.  Robert Williams led the team with three hits.

Anthony Jefferson tallied three RBI on the afternoon.  Harry Markotay, Marquise Lanier, Nick Rose, and Julian Lopez picked up two hits apiece.

Bailey Lipscomb tossed 6.0 innings allowing seven runs off nine hits in a no-decision.  Ricky McCleod, Trenton Lee, and Vinny Puma combined for 7.0 innings in relief allowing one run off four hits.  Lee tossed 4.2 innings of scoreless ball.  Puma grabbed the win to move to 1-1 on the season.

HOW IT HAPPENED

After a quick first inning of work by Bailey Lipscomb, the Warriors tagged the starter for three runs off two hits and an error.

Chowan cut into the deficit in the bottom of the second inning as Julian Lopez drew a full-count walk with one out.  Anthony Jefferson moved Lopez to second on a ground out before Harley Davidson singled up the middle to plate the first run for the Hawks.

ESU used three hits in the third inning to extend their lead to 5-1.  The Warriors added a run in the fourth on a sacrifice fly and a run in the sixth on two errors by the Hawks.

The Hawks didn't let the deficit deter them as CU started chipping away in the bottom of the sixth to trim the Warriors' advantage to 7-3.  Nick Rose sparked the rally with a single to right field.  Trent Brosdahl drew a walk before Robert Williams loaded the bases reaching on a fielding error.  Julian Lopez singled to right to score Rose.  Anthony Jefferson produced a RBI ground out to score a run.

The Warriors countered with a run in the seventh to push their advantage to 8-3.

Chowan rallied back in the bottom of the seventh inning as Harry Markotay and Marquise Lanier started the inning with back-to-back singles.  Trent Brosdahl doubled home both runners before Robert Williams doubled down the first base line and moved to third on a throwing miscue to cut the deficit to 8-6.  The Hawks added a run on an Anthony Jefferson's fielder's choice to close the gap to 8-7.

The Hawks looked to tie the contest up with one out and a runner at third but the passed ball on a squeeze attempt bounced in favor of the Warriors for the out at the plate.

Robert Williams started the bottom of the ninth inning with a double to left field.  Julian Lopez hit a double to right but the pinch running Nicholas Lees was held at third base.  Anthony Jefferson hit a sacrifice fly to right center to knot the contest at 8-all after Lees scurried home.

In extra innings, the Warriors had a chance in the top of the 10th inning as a lead-off single and an error put a runner in scoring position.  Trenton Lee was able to get out of the inning with a pop up and a strikeout.

The extra frames did not produce much for either team until the Hawks' turn in the bottom of the 13th as Nick Rose singled to left center.  Trent Brosdahl doubled down the left field line and into the opponent's bullpen allowing Rose to come all the way around from first to score the walk-off victory.

UP NEXT

Chowan will return to South Carolina to face USC Aiken in a two-game series on Tuesday-Wednesday, March 6-7.  First pitch is slated for 6pm both days.
