Hawks Grounded By Crusaders, 18-7

MURFREESBORO, N.C. – The Chowan Men's Lacrosse team dropped a Conference Carolinas contest to nationally ranked Belmont Abbey, 18-7, on Saturday afternoon.

INSIDE THE BOXSCORE

Nick Lavoy and Anthony Alfonso found the back of the net for a hat-trick.  Alfonso tallied an assist in the loss.

Alex Clabaugh posted a goal and an assist for the Hawks.  Noah Holloway, Austin Lee, and Skylar Briscoe registered an assist.

DJ Walker (2-6) posted 23 saves in goal.

HOW IT HAPPENED

First Quarter:

Belmont Abbey struck quickly in the opening stanza to take a 1-0 lead.  Following a clear attempt by the Hawks Skylar Briscoe raced down the middle of the field and found Alex Clabaugh for a man-down goal to even the score.

The Crusaders would take the lead with three straight goals before Anthony Alfonso ended the drought off an assist from Austin Lee to close the gap to 4-2.

Second Quarter:

Belmont Abbey added two goals before Nick Lavoy tallied an unassisted goal.  The Crusaders took a 7-3 lead into the half.

Third Quarter:

The Crusaders scored four quick goals over a 90 second span to move the advantage to 11-3.

Nick Lavoy ended the run with a goal off an assist from Anthony Alfonso to trim the deficit to 11-4.

Anthony Alfonso scored after Noah Holloway hit the post.  Alfonso picked up the ground ball and quickly scored to move the score to 13-5.

Noah Holloway was able to find Nick Lavoy for a goal to end the scoring for the Hawks in the period.  Belmont Abbey tallied a goal with 2.6 seconds left in the period to lead 14-6.

Fourth Quarter:

The Hawks started the scoring in the period as Anthony Alfonso scored off an Alex Clabaugh assist before the Crusaders responded with four goals to end the contest.
