Hawks MLAX Takes #12 Trojans To Wire, Falls 11-8

MURFREESBORO, N.C. – The Chowan Men's Lacrosse team took #12 Mount Olive to the wire in a Conference Carolinas match on Thursday afternoon before falling 11-8.

INSIDE THE BOXSCORE

Nick Lavoy and Anthony Alfonso tallied six points each in the loss.  LaVoy led the attack with five goals and one assist.  Alfonso scored three goals and recorded three assists.

Austin Lee and Deven Roberts recorded an assist.

Skylar Briscoe was 7-13 in the face-off circle.  DJ Walker posted 22 saves.  Nick Xiques tallied one save.

HOW IT HAPPENED

First Quarter:

Mount Olive struck first to take a 1-0 lead.  Anthony Alfonso found Nick LaVoy for the equalizing goal with 3:27 remaining in the period.

Second Quarter:

Chowan opened up a 4-1 lead in a dominating period for the Hawks.  Anthony Alfonso and Nick Lavoy teamed up for the goals in the period.  LaVoy found the back of the net off an Alfonso pass.

Anthony Alfonso scored an unassisted goal with 1:57 remaining.  Just over a minute left Nick LaVoy found Alfonso for the 4-1 lead.

Mount Olive would score with 17 seconds left to trail 4-2 at intermission.

Third Quarter:

The Trojans and Hawks traded a goal to open the third quarter.  Deven Roberts found Anthony Alfonso to put the Hawks up 5-3.

UMO evened the score at 5-5 with 11:29 left in the quarter before Anthony Alfonso and Nick LaVoy teamed up once again for the 6-5 advantage.

Mount Olive scored three times in the final nine minutes to take an 8-6 lead into the final stanza.

Fourth Quarter:

Nick Lavoy would trim the deficit to 9-7 on an unassisted goal.  LaVoy would find the back of the net for the final tally of the contest for the Hawks, scoring on an Austin Lee assist.

Mount Olive scored a goal to keep the tally at three, 11-8, for the final.

UP NEXT

Chowan continues the daunting part of their schedule, as the Hawks travel to face defending National Champion, Limestone, on Sunday, March 18.  Opening face-off is at 11am.
