Eagles, Hawks Open Play at Hawkins Field

MURFREESBORO, N.C. –  The Chowan University baseball team moved to 1-3 on the season dropping the first two games of the series to Lock Haven 5-4 and 8-6.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Game One: Chowan 4, Lock Haven 5

Lock Haven scored the opening run of the contest as the Eagles hit a home run in the top of the first inning.

Chowan was able to find the answer in the bottom of the second inning as Trent Brosdahl sent a 0-2 pitch over the left center wall.
The Hawks took the lead in the bottom of the fourth inning to lead 3-1.  Trent Brosdahl and Robert Williams started the inning reaching on an error and a hit by pitch respectively.  Harley Davidson brought home a run on a sacrifice bunt.  Trenton Lee ripped a single to center field to score the second run of the inning to lead 3-1.
The Eagles would trim the lead to 3-2 in the top of the fifth inning as a walk turned into a run following a base knock to right field.  Lock Haven looked to do damage in the top of the sixth inning with two runners on.  Vinny Puma came in to pitch in relief picking up the final strikeout of the inning.

Chowan would get the run back in the sixth inning to lead 4-2.  Trenton Lee started off the inning with a walk followed by a single by Anthony Jefferson to left field.  Lee and Jefferson pulled off the double steal before Marquise Lanier beat out an infield single bringing home Lee.

Lock Haven would threaten in the top of the seventh as the Eagles scored three runs off one swing to regain the lead 5-4.

The Hawks looked to knot the contest up in the bottom of the seventh inning as Harley Davidson drew a two out walk.  Trenton Lee singled up the middle to put Davidson into scoring position.  Anthony Jefferson ripped a pitch towards third but was snagged for the final out of the game.

Game Two: Chowan 6, Lock Haven 8

Lock Haven opened the contest with a two run advantage after the opening half inning.  The Eagles added to their advantage in the second with a solo home run.

The Eagles posted two more runs in the top of the fourth to lead 5-0.

Robert Williams and Tyler Jones drew walks in the bottom of the fifth but were stranded on the bases.

In the bottom of the fifth trailing 6-0, the Hawks were able to break through on the scoreboard as Anthony Jefferson singled up the middle and swiped second.  Marquise Lanier would bring home Jefferson with a two-run home run to left field.

Lock Haven responded in the top of the sixth inning with a two run shot to push the lead to 8-2.

The Hawks would not go away quietly as Robert Williams led off the bottom of the sixth with a solo home run.  The extra base hits continued as the next batter, Tyler Jones, doubled down the left field line.  Harley Davidson doubled into the left center gap to bring home Jefferson.  Trenton Lee reached base on a throwing error to put runners on the corners.  Anthony Jefferson singled to left to bring Davidson before a wild pitch brought home Lee to close the gap 8-6.

Chowan would strand the bases loaded to end the sixth.  The game would be delayed because of darkness.

Bailey Lipscomb retired the runners in order to start the seventh inning but the Hawks were unable to get a runner past second base in the final inning as Lock Haven took game two, 8-6.
