HAWKS HIGHLIGHTS
Chowan split their season opening doubleheader against Barton over the weekend. Chowan won the first game 10-1 before falling in the nightcap.
Lindsey Stigler and Kris Neal lead the team with a .600 batting average. Stigler, Beth Walker, Shannon Buchanan, and Kelsey Sonntag posted two RBI each in the series.
Shannon Buchanan led the team to the series opening win tossing five strong innings and struck out four.
CRUSADER NEWS
Belmont Abbey opened the season with a doubleheader sweep against St. Andrews on the road last week. The Crusaders finished the season 10-30-2 in 2017.
Peyton Wilson and Anna Mixa lead the Crusaders hitting .500 and .400 respectively. Peyton Wilson and Annabeth Watkins lead the team with one win each in the circle.
SERIES IN REVIEW
Chowan leads the overall series 2-0. This will be the first meeting between the two programs since a doubleheader on April 10, 2011. The Hawks won the series in Belmont, N.C. (5-3, 8-5).
