HARTSVILLE, S.C. – The Chowan Baseball team split their season opener on the road against Coker on Saturday afternoon. The Hawks picked up the win in the nightcap.

Josh Vincent picked up his first win of the season tossing 4.0 innings and striking out seven. Corey Fago, Bailey Lipscomb, and Vinny Puma tossed a combined 4.2 innings in relief allowing four hits.
Harry Markotay and Tyler Jones picked up three hits each. Markotay tallied five RBI along with a triple and two stolen bases.
Nick Rose, Robert Williams, Marquise Lanier, and Trent Brosdahl notched two hits apiece. Lanier, Brosdahl and Anthony Jefferson tallied two RBI each in game two.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Game One: Chowan 0, Coker 3
Harry Markotay opened the contest with a single to centerfield. Markotay would swipe second and take third on an errant throw. Two ground out would leave Markotay stranded at third.
Cody Smith opened with three strikeouts in the opening two innings. Coker jumped on the board for two runs in the bottom of the third inning on three hits.
The Hawks were able to get the bases loaded in the top of the fourth inning but was turned away. Marquise Lanier opened the inning getting hit by a pitch. Julian Lopez and Josh Vincent drew walks to load the bases. A 5-3 double play ended the rally.
The Cobras tacked on an insurance run in the bottom of the fifth to take a 3-0 lead. Tyler Jones picked up the lone hit in the final two innings.
Game Two: Chowan 15, Coker 4
The Hawks posted five runs in the second inning on three hits and two Cobra errors. Nick Rose started the inning off with a single to the outfield. Tyler Jones followed with a single before Robert Williams drew a walk to load the bases. Anthony Jefferson brought home the first run of the game reaching on an error. Harry Markotay brought home Williams and Jones.
Harry Markotay and Anthony Jefferson performed a double steal before an errant throw from the catcher allowed Jefferson to come home. Marquise Lanier hit a sac fly to drive in the fifth run in the inning.
Corey Bolam pushed the Hawks' advantage to 6-0 with a single to right field in the top of the third inning bringing home Nick Rose. Rose reached via a walk.
Coker closed the gap slightly in the bottom of the third scoring two runs. Chowan answered with two runs in the top of the fourth to lead 8-2. Trent Brosdahl doubled down the left field line to bring home Marquise Lanier and Harry Markotay that singled and walked to start the inning.
Chowan widened their lead to 11-2 in the top of the fifth as Harry Markotay started the rally with a triple to deep center scoring Anthony Jefferson and Robert Williams. Marquise Lanier drove in Markotay with a RBI single.
Coker scored two run in the bottom of the fifth on one hit as the first three batters reached via the walk.
The Hawks tacked on four runs (two in the sixth and two in the seventh) to take the first win of the season.

Chowan opens their home slate on February 10-11 against Lock Haven at Hawkins Field in a four-game series. First pitch is slated for 12pm on Saturday.
