HOW IT HAPPENED

Game One: Chowan 10, Goldey-Beacom 9 (8)

The Lightning jumped on the board early in the contest scoring four runs in the top of the first off starter Josh Vincent.

Chowan responded with two runs in the bottom of the inning as Marquise Lanier singled to start the inning.  Trent Brosdahl hit his first home run of the contest to left field to cut the deficit to 4-2.  Nick Rose singled along with back-to-back walks by Julian Lopez and Tyler Jones loaded the bases but were turned away.

The Hawks found the tying run in the bottom of the second inning as Harry Markotay singled with one out.  Marquise Lanier doubled to left center to put both runners in scoring position.  Trent Brosdahl walked to load the bases before Robert Williams singled to right field to bring home Markotay and Lanier.  A double play ended the threat at 4-all.

GBC answered with three runs in the top of the third on a two run home run and a two out single to lead 7-4.  A solo home run in the fourth extended the lead to 8-4.

Trent Brosdahl hit a sacrifice fly in the bottom of the fourth to close the gap to 8-5.  Brosdahl would give the Hawks life in the bottom of the sixth hitting a no-doubt three run shot to left field to knot the contest at 8-all.  Harry Markotay reached on a single before Marquise Lanier was hit by a pitch.

The Lightning took the lead again in the top of the seventh as a single, stolen base, wild pitch, and passed ball provided the tally for GBC.

The Hawks would not go away quietly in the bottom of the seventh as Nick Rose singled to start the inning.  Tyler Jones drew a walk.  Anthony Jefferson singled through the left side of the infield to bring home the pinch running Nicholas Lees for the tying run.

In extra innings, a walk by Trent Brosdahl and a single by Robert Williams put the Hawks in scoring position.  Corey Fago delivered one of the biggest hits in his career to walk-off the Lightning, 10-9.

Game Two: Chowan 3, Goldey-Beacom 3

Bailey Lipscomb started the contest on fire sitting down four of the first seven batters via the punchout.

The Lightning would touch up Lipscomb in the top of the third on a solo home run to take an early 1-0 lead.  GBC added another run in the fourth as a throwing error allowed a run to score.

GBC posted their final tally of the contest in the top of the seventh on another solo blast to lead 3-0.

The Hawks looked to rally in their final at-bat as a controversial call in left field off the bat of Anthony Jefferson that was originally ruled a hit was overturned.  With two outs in the inning, Marquise Lanier gave the Hawks life with a single to left.  Trent Brosdahl followed with a single to left before a wild pitch moved both runners up 90 feet.

Robert Williams drew a walk to load the bases for Nick Rose.  Rose would find grass with a single through the right side of the infield to bring home Lanier and Brosdahl.  Julian Lopez would bring home the tying run as a fielding error allowed Lopez to reach safely.

The contest was called because of darkness and ended in a 3-all tie.
