WILSON, N.C.- The Chowan Baseball team picked up a decisive 6-2 win over Barton on the road on Tuesday in a nine inning affair.

INSIDE THE BOXSCORE

Harry Markotay led the Hawks at the plate going 2-2 with three runs scored and three walks.  Markotay produced a double and a home run.

Julian Lopez went 3-3 at the plate and two walks.  Nick Rose recorded two RBI.

Ryan Gallaccio picked up the win tossing 7.0 strong innings allowing one run off six hits.

HOW IT HAPPENED

Barton opened the scoring in the bottom of the first inning as the lead-off batter doubled.  Back-to-back flyouts allowed the runner to advance and scamper home for the opening tally of the ball game.

The Hawks answered in the top of the second inning as Robert Williams singled to open the inning.  Julain Lopez drew a walk before Anthony Jefferson singled home Williams.  A double play ended any more scoring for the Hawks.

Harry Markotay drew a walk and swiped second to open the third inning.  Markotay advanced to third on a fly out by Nick Rose before coming home on a Trent Brosdahl single to left center to give the Hawks a 2-1 lead.

Chowan was the beneficiary of a balk with Julian Lopez on third base after reaching on a single and moving up to second on a failed pick-off attempt.  Anthony Jefferson singled to push Lopez to third before the balk.

Nick Rose gave the Hawks some insurance runs in the top of the sixth inning scoring two runs on a single to score Marquise Lanier and Harry Markotay.  Markotay walked with two outs before Lanier doubled to left.

Harry Markotay hit a solo shot in the top of the eighth inning to lead 6-1.

In the bottom of the ninth, Barton added a run on a throwing error to trim the deficit to 6-2 with two outs.

Chowan returns home to face East Stroudsburg in a four-game series on Saturday and Sunday, March 3-4.  First pitch is at 12pm.
