Buchanan Allows One Hit In Shutout Against USciences

MURFREESBORO, N.C. – The Chowan Softball team picked up the opening contest of the Hawks Softball Classic, 4-0, against the University of the Sciences on Saturday afternoon.

INSIDE THE BOXSCORE

Shannon Buchanan (3-3) pitched a complete game shutout allowing one hit and struck out nine.  Buchanan also added to the offense with two hits to lead the team.

Mackenzie Taggart, Haley Cooper, Lindsey Stigler, Brittany Parson, and Donya Salman picked up a hit each.  Taggart recorded the lone RBI in the contest.

HOW IT HAPPENED

Mackenzie Taggart drew a walk to start the contest but was wiped away with a caught stealing.

Shannon Buchanan picked up the first hit of the contest for either side in the bottom of the second inning.

Chowan cracked the scoreless draw in the bottom of the fourth inning as Lindsey Stigler opened the inning with a single down the left field line.  Brittany Parson drew a walk to put Stigler in scoring position.  Shannon Buchanan singled to right to load the bases.  Miranda Glover reached on an error to score the first run.  Mackenzie Taggart singled to right to score the second run.  Another error allowed two more runs to lead 4-0.

Shannon Buchanan struck out four of the next six batters to keep the Devils at-bay.  Buchanan took a no-hitter into the seventh as the second batter of the inning singled for the only hit of the contest.

UP NEXT

Chowan will finish up their second contest of the day as the match-up against West Chester was postponed in the fifth because of darkness.  The Hawks will resume the contest at 8am on Sunday, February 25.
