MURFREESBORO, N.C. – The Chowan Softball team finished up the Hawks Softball Classic with a 3-1 record picking up wins on Sunday against University of the Sciences and Salem.

INSIDE THE BOXSCORES
Donya Salman and Beth Walker led the Hawks on the day with four hits each. Walker tallied a double and a home run to go with four RBI.
Kelsey Sonntag and Lindsey Stigler picked up three hits. Stigler notched two doubles.
Shannon Buchanan picked up a win in the contest against Salem tossing 5.0 innings allowing three hits and three unearned runs.
Shelby Griffis went 1-1 on the day tossing 14.0 innings. Griffis picked up the win against USciences.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Game Two: Chowan 0, West Chester 4
In a resumption contest from Saturday, Chowan tallied four hits in the loss.
West Chester took a 1-0 lead in the top of the second inning as two hits in the inning plated a run.
Mackenzie Taggart picked up the first hit for the Hawks on a bunt single.
The Golden Rams added two runs in the top of the fifth and a run in the sixth to take the advantage 4-0.
The Hawks were unable to put hits together to make a dent in the scoreboard falling 4-0.
Game Three: Chowan 5, USciences 3
Chowan started the scoring in the bottom of the first inning as Mackenzie Taggart singled down the left field line and swiped second. Lindsey Stigler doubled to left field to bring home Taggart for the opening tally of the contest.
The Hawks added to the tally in the bottom of the second as Kris Neal drew a walk and stole second to lead off the inning. Molly Rosenthal singled and moved to second on the throw with no outs. Kelsey Sonntag doubled down the left field line to score Neal and Rosenthal. Haley Cooper singled up the middle to score Sonntag to keep the inning going. Beth Walker doubled to right center to give the Hawks a 5-0 advantage.
The Devils would look to make a comeback in the top of the third to trim their deficit to 5-3. Three hits and two walks in the inning allowed USciences to score.
Chowan had chances in the fourth, fifth, and sixth innings but were turned away as the Hawks took the contest 5-3.
Game Four: Chowan 8, Salem 3 (5)
The Hawks used a strong first inning scoring six runs to take a commanding lead over Salem. Mackenzie Taggart started the inning with a walk. Taggart would move to third on a stolen base and wild pitch. Haley Cooper drew a walk and swiped second. Beth Walker broke the scoreless tie with a three run shot to right field for the early 3-0 lead.
Brittany Parson doubled to center and moved to third on a wild pitch before Kris Neal reached on an infield single. Miranda Glover singled to bring home Parson and Neal. Glover swiped second before Donya Salman produced a RBI single through the left side of the infield for the 6-0 lead.
Chowan tacked on two more runs in the second inning as Haley Cooper drew a walk to start the inning. Lindsey Stigler put herself in scoring position with a double and moved Cooper to third. Brittany Parson singled to right to score Stigler and Cooper for the 8-0 lead.
Salem scored three runs in the third inning on two hits and an error to trim the deficit to 8-3.
The Hawks would produce four more base runners but to speed the contest up left the base early for the out.
UP NEXT
Chowan heads to Buckhannon, W.Va. to compete in the West Virginia Wesleyan tournament on March 9-11 for a five game tournament. The Hawks will face Gannon, Bloomsburg, #4 West Virginia Wesleyan, Shepherd, and East Stroudsburg.
