FLORENCE, S.C. – The Chowan Softball team dropped the finale of the Patriots Invitational against Mercy, 4-2, on Sunday afternoon.

INSIDE THE BOXSCORE
The Hawks managed four hits in the contest. Mackenzie Taggart, Lindsey Stigler, Kris Neal, and Molly Rosenthal tallied a hit.
Molly Rosenthal hit her first home run of the season in the loss. Kris Neal tallied a RBI.
Shannon Buchanan fell to 2-3 on the season tossing a complete game allowing four runs off nine hits and struck out five.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Mackenzie Taggart led off the contest with a walk but was forced out at second. Brittany Parson started the second the same way but was out on a double play.
Molly Rosenthal broke the trend with a solo home run on a full count pitch to give the Hawks a 1-0 lead in the third inning.
Mercy responded with three runs in the top of the fourth inning as the Mustangs posted four hits and used a Hawk error to take the lead 3-1.
The Mustangs added a run in the top of the seventh to extend the lead to 4-1.
In the bottom of the seventh, Lindsey Stigler started off the inning with a single off the pitcher's leg. A groundout and a throwing error put runners on the corners. Kris Neal reached on an infield single to bring home a run. A ground out and strikeout ended the threat and contest.
UP NEXT
Chowan returns home to host the Hawks Softball Classic on Saturday and Sunday, February 24 and 25. The Hawks will face the Univ. of Sciences and nationally ranked West Chester on Saturday. First pitch is at 11am and 3pm respectively.
