Hawks MLAX Nets Second Win Against Eagles

DAYTONA BEACH, FLA. – The Chowan Men's Lacrosse Team continued their impressive start to open the season picking up a 12-3 win over Embry-Riddle on Saturday afternoon on the road.

INSIDE THE BOXSCORE

Nick Lavoy, Anthony Alfonso and Alex Calbaugh tallied hat-tricks in the win scoring three goals each.

Xavier Wingfield posted two assists as Noah Holloway scored two points with a goal and assist.

DJ Walker picked up the win in cage allowing three goals and recording 12 saves.

Embry-Riddle bested the Hawks in the circle winning 13 of the 16 face-offs.

HOW IT HAPPENED

First Quarter:

Both teams struggled to find the back of the net in the first quarter until Michael Stewart found Nick Lavoy with 4:19 remaining for the man-up goal.

Noah Holloway gave the Hawks a 2-0 lead finding the back of the net off a pass from Xavier Wingfield.

Second Quarter:

Chowan continued to attack scoring four goals in the period to lead 6-0.  Xavier Wingfield found Austin Lee in space for a man-up goal to start the period.

Just over a minute later Josh Nicholson scored an unassisted goal.  Late in the period, Noah Holloway found Alex Clabuagh for his first goal of the match with 2:30 remaining.

Nick Lavoy would put the Hawks up 6-0 at the break scoring an unassisted goal as time expired.

Third Quarter:

Alex Clabaugh gave the Hawks a 7-0 advantage with an unassisted goal five minutes into the period.

Embry-Riddle would net their first goal of the program at the 5:35 mark to trail 7-1.

Alex Clabaugh scored his hat-trick goal in the third period to give the Hawks an 8-1 lead.

Fourth Quarter:

Embry-Riddle started to find the attack in the period scoring two goals.  The Hawks kept the Eagles at bay scoring four times in the final 15 minutes of action.

Anthony Alfonso scored all three of his goals in the final period on unassisted attempts.  Austin Lee assisted on a goal by Nick Lavoy as the Hawks won 12-3.

UP NEXT

Chowan hosts Coker on February 17 for their first home contest of the season.  Face-off is slated for 3pm.
