MURFREESBORO, N.C. – Danielle Weldon and the Chowan Women's Basketball team cleaned up the glass leading to two program bests as the Hawks defeated Shaw in CIAA action on Saturday afternoon, 67-43.

Danielle Weldon tallied a double-double with a program record 21 rebounds and 13 points. Weldon led the attack to 29 offensive boards.
Olivia Gaither posted 14 points on four made three-pointers.
Chowan's defense held the Bears to only 12 made baskets.

First Quarter:
Olivia Gaither started the game with three-pointer off an assist from Mariah Coker to spark a 17-4 run. Gaither knocked down another triple following a pair of freebies by Jahkeria Bagby to lead 8-2.
After the first Shaw bucket, Danielle Weldon countered with a layup and a three-pointer by Mariah Coker opened up the contest. Weldon added another bucket to give the Hawks a double-digit lead before the media timeout.
Joanne Williams knocked down a jumper before a quick 5-0 run by the Bears to trim the deficit back to single digits. Danielle Weldon gave the Hawks a 19-9 advantage heading to the second quarter.
Second Quarter:
Chowan went on a 10-0 run after the Bears started the quarter with a bucket. Jahkeria Bagby, Olivia Gaither, and Kaylah Henderson tallied a bucket, while Joanne Williams notched two during the run.
The Bears would cut into the deficit but Jordan Pettaway and Danielle Weldon evened the rally to keep the advantage at 18, 33-15.
Teylahna Green knocked down a three-pointer to end the half to lead 36-16.
Third Quarter:
The Hawks dominated the first three minutes of the third quarter going on an 11-2 run. Olivia Gaither knocked down a three-pointer to spark the run. Shaw scored 15 seconds later for the lone bucket during the stretch. Jada Lee posted a triple along with a layup by Danielle Weldon to keep the run moving. Mariah Coker capped off the rally with a three-pointer to push the advantage to 29, 47-18.
Shaw went on a 7-0 run before the rally ended with back-to-back buckets by Destiny Robinson. Danielle Weldon went 1-2 from the stripe to give the Hawks a 52-26 advantage heading to the final stanza.
Fourth Quarter:
Olivia Gaither connected from deep before Sydnee Neal hit a jumper in the paint.
Arianna Hopkins picked up a pair from the stripe and a layup to stretch the lead back to 63-34.
Sydnee Neal posted the final bucket for the Hawks to defeat the Bears, 65-39.

Chowan will continue the trek through the CIAA Southern Division as the Hawks welcome St. Augustine's to town on Monday, December 17. Tip-off is at 5:30pm.
