WILSON, N.C. – The Chowan Women's basketball team battled tough against the unbeaten Barton Bulldogs, but were unable to overcome the cold shooting from behind the arc, as the Hawks suffered a 62-54 loss on the road.

Chowan shot 33.3% from the floor and 14.3% from behind the arc.
Danielle Weldon and Jordan Pettaway produced double-digit scoring outputs with 11 and 10 points each. Mariah Coker and Destiny Robinson chipped in with seven points. Robinson tallied six rebounds.
HOW IT HAPPENED
First Quarter:
Both teams struggled to find the opening bucket of the contest as Barton scored 1:23 into the contest for the early 2-0 lead. Barton would lead 8-0 before Danielle Weldon hit from the floor with 4:57 remaining in the quarter.
Danielle Weldon would knock down another jumper, 10-4, before Kaylah Henderson converted the three-point play.
Jordan Pettaway cut the deficit to 10-9 with a layup. Danielle Weldon went 1-2 from the stripe to even the contest at 10-all. Pettaway gave the Hawks their only lead of the contest at 12-10 with a layup but the lead would vanish as the Bulldogs knocked down a three at the other end.
Pettaway hit a jumper for the final bucket of the quarter for the Hawks to trail 17-14.
Second Quarter:
After trading a freebie, Barton went on a 7-0 run to lead 25-15. Joanne Williams ended the drought with a layup at the 4:50 mark. Danielle Weldon would post back-to-back buckets to trim the deficit to 27-21.
Danielle Weldon and Jahkeria Bagby recorded a bucket to end the half as Chowan trailed 30-25 at the break.
Third Quarter:
Barton would start the half with a three-point conversion before Kaylah Henderson put the Hawks on the board. Mariah Coker hit a layup to close the gap to 35-30, but the Bulldogs would stretch their lead out to 41-30 at the media timeout.
Destiny Robinson tallied a bucket along with a layup by Jordan Pettaway kept the deficit to single-digits, 42-34.
Destiny Robinson continued to score in the paint with a pair of buckets and a three-point play to trim the deficit to 48-41 heading to the final stanza.
Fourth Quarter:
Mariah Coker would post the first bucket for the Hawks at the 8:06 mark of the quarter to swap points with the Bulldogs to keep the deficit in single-digits, 50-43. Coker and Olivia Gaither found the stroke from behind the arc after the team missed their first 10 shots from behind the arc to close the gap to 54-49.
Barton called a timeout with 6:10 left but the momentum stayed with the Hawks as Jada Lee converted in the paint. The Bulldogs would quickly score four points to push the lead back to 58-51 midway through the quarter.
Joanne Williams posted a bucket to cut the deficit to 60-53 with just over two minutes to play. Williams went 1-2 from the stripe.
The Hawks were unable to close the gap as Barton converted from the stripe to keep the comeback at bay.
