MURFREESBORO, N.C. – The Chowan Men's Basketball team soared past Regent in a non-conference contest at home, 83-55, to improve to 3-0 on the young season.

Xavier Young led the Hawks with 17 points. Trejvon McFail went 6-8 from the floor and 3-5 from behind the arc of the bench to score 15 points.
Robert Grubbs, Demetrius Sanders and Gus Rowland scored in double-figures. Sanders recorded a double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds.
Chowan blocked eight shots and had 11 steals.
HOW IT HAPPENED
First Half:
Michael Kelly started the Hawks off with a quick bucket before the Royals led 5-2 early. Robert Grubbs and Gus Rowland handed the lead back to CU with quick baskets.
Regent would hang with the Hawks through the first 10 minutes of action leading 12-10.
Trejvon McFail knocked down a triple to spark the offense before two freebies by Xavier Young gave the Hawks a 15-12 lead at the under 10 media timeout.
After a couple of free throws, Trejvon McFail put the Hawks up, 26-18, with a triple, a fast break bucket and a dunk.
Xavier Young gave the Hawks a double-digit lead with a three-pointer. Young knocked down a second triple along with a jumper by Ugljesa Portic and a trey by Timothy Bing giving the Hawks a 41-26 lead heading into the locker room.
Second Half:
A 14-4 run by the Hawks saw their lead swell to 53-30. Michael Kelly started the run with a tip-in off an offensive board. Gus Rowland converted on the fast break lay-up before a dunk by Michael Kelly forced a timeout.
Robert Grubbs continued the run with a layup as Demetrius Sanders recorded a dunk and a lay-up capped off the run.
Five points by the Royals slowed the momentum for the moment before Demetrius Sanders scored off an assist from Gus Rowland.
The lead continued to grow for the Hawks with Trejvon McFail posting a dunk along with Timothy Bing with a lay-up and a three-pointer by Robert Grubbs pushed the lead to 62-38 midway through the half.
A lay-up by Robert Grubbs and a triple by Xavier Young allowed the Hawks to see their largest lead of the contest, 67-38, with 10:05 remaining.
The Hawks would maintain their large lead throughout the rest of the half with the Royals cutting the deficit to 25 on several occasions.

Chowan hits the road for their first road contest of the season, as the Hawks travel a short ways to face non-conference foe, Mount Olive, on Saturday, November 24. Tip-off is at 4pm.
