MOUNT OLIVE, N.C. – Behind the hot shooting of the Chowan Men's Basketball team, the Hawks improved to 4-0 with a 94-82 victory over Mount Olive on Saturday evening.

Gus Rowland missed a triple-double by two rebounds with 21 points, 12 assists, and eight rebounds. Rowland's 12 assists is a program best topping Kortez Smith's record of 11 against Washington Adventist in 2013.
Timothy Bing led the Hawks with 25 points shooting 8-9 (88.9%) from the floor including a perfect 5-5 from behind the arc. Demetrius Sanders posted 19 points and nine rebounds, while Michael Kelly (13 points) and Robert Grubbs (12 points) scored in double-figures.
Chowan shot 72.4% (21-29) in the first half and finished with 63.6% (35-55) from the floor in the contest while connecting on 7-10 from behind the arc in the second half.
HOW IT HAPPENED
First Half:
Mount Olive led 6-2 early as Michael Kelly tallied the lone bucket during the stretch. Kelly would add another bucket before Timothy Bing and Demetrius Sanders closed the gap to 10-8 with a bucket.
The Trojans stretched the lead to 19-14 before Gus Rowland found Timothy Bing for a three-pointer. UMO continued to push out in front stretching their lead to double-figures, 31-21, midway through the half.
The Hawks would go on a 12-2 run to even the contest at 33-all as Timothy Bing dialed up a shot from long distance along with a layup by Michael Kelly to spark the rally. Kelly completed the three-point play before a Gus Rowland jumper and a dunk by Demetrius Sanders evened the contest.
The Trojans countered with a 12-1 run to push the lead back to double-digits, 45-34, before a 14-4 run by the Hawks evened the score once again at 48-all with just over a minute to play in the half.
Gus Rowland scored seven points during the stretch as the Hawks trailed 51-48 at intermission.
Second Half:
Mount Olive started the half on an 11-3 run, but the Hawks would not go away quietly as an 11-0 run knotted things at 62-all at the media timeout. Robert Grubbs and Timothy Bing knocked down back-to-back triples along with a putback by Demetrius Sanders and a fastbreak layup by Bing.
After a pair of triples by the Trojans, Gus Rowland and Robert Grubbs connected from deep and a dunk by Demetrius Sanders gave the Hawks the 70-68 advantage.
A quick 10-0 spurt by the Hawks sparked by a jumper by Michael Kelly gave the Hawks the momentum. Robert Grubbs and Timothy Bing knocked down triples and capped off by a Gus Rowland layup gave the Hawks the 80-70 lead.
UMO trimmed the deficit to 82-78, with 3:55 to play in the contest but a four-point play by Timothy Bing pushed the lead back to eight. Gus Rowland went 5-6 from the stripe to salt away the victory for the Hawks.
