MURFREESBORO, N.C. – The Chowan Women's Basketball team picked up a non-conference victory over Mount Olive in their home opener on Wednesday evening defeating the Trojans, 67-55.

Danielle Weldon and Jada Lee led the Hawks with 17 points each. Weldon tallied nine rebounds. Lee recorded four rebounds, two assists and three steals.
Mariah Coker posted 10 points with five assists, four rebounds, and three steals.
Jordan Pettway scored seven points along with six points by Destiny Robinson and Jahkeria Bagby.
HOW IT HAPPENED
First Quarter:
Danielle Weldon and Jada Lee tallied a bucket each early in the contest. Jordan Pettaway knocked down a three to switch the back-and-forth lead to the Hawks, 7-5.
The Trojans would go on an 8-0 run to lead 13-7 before the Hawks end the quarter on a 6-0 run to even things at 13-all at the buzzer. Jada Lee, Mariah Coker and Danielle Weldon each posted a basket during the stretch.
Second Quarter:
The run would continue into the quarter with a 10-0 run to start the quarter. Jahkeria Bagby knocked down a jumper in the paint followed by a put-back by Danielle Weldon. Destiny Robinson also recorded a put-back. Jahkeria Bagby converted twice from the charity stripe before Danielle Weldon notched a layup.
Mount Olive would score their first points in the quarter from the stripe with a pair. Danielle Weldon earned those points back with a three-point play. The Trojans knocked down their first jumper in the quarter to cut the deficit back to single-digits but Jada Lee hit a three along with a jumper by Joanne Williams to stretch the lead to 31-17.
The Trojans went on an 8-2 run to close out the half as Danielle Weldon tallied the lone bucket in the final 2:50 of the half.
Chowan went into the locker room with a 33-25 advantage.
Third Quarter:
Jordan Pettway started the scoring for the Hawks in the half with a trey off an offensive rebound by Joanne Williams. Mariah Coker and Jada Lee would knock down a triple to push the lead back to double-figures, 42-32.
The Trojans would cut the deficit to single-digits but the Hawks would respond on the other end with Jada Lee and Mariah Coker, once again, knocking down three-pointers.
Jada Lee knocked down a jumper to close out the quarter with a 50-41 advantage.
Fourth Quarter:
UMO trimmed the deficit to seven, 50-43, before a quick 6-0 run sparked by steals by Mariah Coker and Kaylah Henderson allowed Danielle Weldon and Jahkeria Bagby to produce baskets in transition.
Destiny Robinson recorded back-to-back buckets before the Hawks went 6-8 from the stripe to build their lead to 16, 66-50, with 3:21 remaining.
The Trojans chipped away at the deficit slightly before the Hawks moved the ball around the floor to milk the clock for the 67-55 victory.
