HAWKS FLYING ALL OVER
Chowan is second in the league in points per game averaging 38.7 points after posting 44 points last week against Elizabeth City State. The Hawks held ECSU to 20 points to lower their average to 39.1 points given up.
The Hawks offensively, lead the CIAA in yards per game with 493.6 yards with the second most passing (295.6, behind Bowie State) and third most rushing (198.0, behind Virginia Union and Fayetteville State). Chowan leads the league in first downs per contest at 25.1 per game.
The Chowan defense built up confidence last week registering eight sacks against the Vikings. Rafiq Abdul-Wahid was named CIAA Defensive Lineman of the Week posting 3.5 sacks and 4.5 tackles for loss.
FLANKING THE TROJANS
Virginia State sits with a 4-3 overall record but tied in the Northern Division with Bowie State and Virginia Union at 3-1 in the division. The Trojans are fourth in the CIAA in points per game with 31.3 points. The stingy Trojan defense tops the league in fewest points allowed per contest at 19.0 and allows only 302.0 yards per game. VSU has faced three of the lowest offensive output teams in the league.
INSIDE THE SERIES
Chowan and Virginia State will meet for the ninth time in the series. Virginia State leads the overall series, 7-1. Chowan came up short last season in an upset bid as nationally-ranked VSU escaped with a 26-23 victory in Murfreesboro on a last minute turnover.

Chowan has played twice on October 27 and has a 1-1 overall record. Chowan fell to Webber International in 2007 before picking up their only win against Virginia State in 2012 defeating the Trojans 33-21 in Petersburg.
