MURFREESBORO, N.C. – Momentum shift late in the third set was a little too late for the Chowan Volleyball team as the Hawks dropped a 3-1 decision at home in the annual Dig Pink match.

Sydney Hiner tallied a double-double with a career-high 17 kills and 22 digs. Micayla Pope registered her third straight double-double with 37 assists and 12 digs.
Alyssa Born and Meghan Mutter notched 17 and 14 digs respectively. Kayla Gates chipped in with 10 kills, while Courtney O'Keefe posted seven kills.
Breona Young tallied five total blocks in the loss.
HOW IT HAPPENED
First Set:
Chowan fell behind early as Mount Olive led 9-4. Kayla Gates scored the first kill for the Hawks at 5-2.
UMO pushed ahead following a kill by Milica Vejnovic to lead 18-7. A service ace by Sydney Hiner and a kill by Kayla Gates and Courtney O'Keefe closed the gap to 23-16.
Mount Olive took the set 25-16.
Second Set:
Kayla Gates kept the score close early with a kill, but UMO led 11-5 to force a Chowan timeout.
Three Hawk errors pushed the Trojan lead to 14-7 before Sydney Hiner posted a kill. A block by Breona Young and Kayla Gates sparked a rally to close the gap to 17-14.
Three errors and a kill by Sydney Hiner trimmed the deficit to 20-18. UMO took the set 25-21.
Third Set:
Mount Olive led 8-3 early as the Trojans used the Hawks' errors to lead. Chowan would rally with kills by Sydney Hiner, Kayla Gates and Breona Young to close the deficit to 16-15.
Sydney Hiner netted a kill to force a timeout, 20-19. Out of the timeout Hiner registered three kills to take the lead 24-20. Kayla Gates and Breona Young blocked a Trojan attack to end the set, 25-22.
Fourth Set:
A back-and-forth set early allowed the Hawks to lead 13-6 as Sydney Hiner registered three kills along with a Courtney O'Keefe kill and service ace.
Meghan Mutter served up an ace to lead 20-13 before a 7-1 Trojan road forced a timeout, 21-20.
Mount Olive finished off the set to even the match at 22 and 23-all before taking the set and match, 25-23.
