BOWIE, MD. – The Chowan Women's Basketball team was unable to overcome a cold shooting first half on the road, as the Hawks fell to Bowie State 71-65 in CIAA Northern Division action on Wednesday evening.

INSIDE THE BOXSCORE
Chantel Roberts paced the Hawks with 28 points and eight rebounds. Dhyamond Crenshaw chipped in with 17 points and seven boards.
Joanne Williams came up one point short of a double-double with nine points and 10 rebounds.
Chowan outscored Bowie State 45-38 in the second half after trailing 33-18 at intermission.
HOW IT HAPPENED
First Quarter:
Chowan produced their lowest scoring total in a quarter (6) after going 2-19 from the floor and 2-4 from the foul line.
Chantel Roberts broke the scoreless draw 1:53 into the contest with a layup. Bowie State went on a 12-0 run before Roberts added three points to the tally.
Danielle Weldon chipped in with a point from the charity stripe as the Hawks trailed 14-6 at the buzzer.
Second Quarter:
Chantel Roberts tried to keep the Hawks in the contest early knocking down a pair of jumpers. The Bulldogs would push their advantage to double-figures before Mariah Coker hit a triple to close the gap back to single-digits, 22-13.
Out of the media timeout, Joanne Williams notched a pair of buckets before the Bulldogs answered to keep the advantage at nine, 26-17.
The Bulldogs pushed their lead back to double-digits, 33-18, ending the half on a 9-1 run.
Third Quarter:
Joanne Williams connected on the first bucket of the half for the Hawks. Following a triple by the Bulldogs, Chowan tallied a 6-2 run to close the gap to 38-26. Dhyamond Crenshaw added a pair from the stripe and a jumper during the run.
Dhyamond Crenshaw converted from the stripe for a pair with 6:31 left in the quarter to trim the deficit back to single digits, 38-29. Chantel Roberts and Danielle Weldon notched a bucket each before Bowie State widened the gap to 47-33, forcing a Chowan timeout.
Out of the timeout, Dhyamond Crenshaw and Chantel Roberts teamed up for a quick 5-0 run to trim the deficit once again to single-digits. Crenshaw connected from the floor for another jumper along with a Jada Lee free throw closed the gap to 49-41 at the end of the third quarter.
Fourth Quarter:
Chowan continued to fight their way back in the contest as Joanne Williams tallied a put-back bucket to open the quarter. BSU knocked down a triple before Chantel Roberts answered with a trey on the next possession.
Chantel Roberts trimmed the deficit to two, 52-50, with 7:59 remaining with a pair of buckets. The Bulldogs pushed the advantage back to eight, 60-52, after a pair of free throws by Dhyamond Crenshaw.
Chantel Roberts added a triple before a 6-0 run by the Bulldogs pushed the deficit back to double-figures, 66-55. Dhyamond Crenshaw and Roberts tallied a pair of buckets to close the gap to 66-59 with 1:29 left in the quarter. Roberts added another bucket to keep the Hawks close.
Baskets by Jada Lee and Dhyamond Crenshaw trimmed the deficit to three, 68-65, forcing a timeout by Bowie State.
The Bulldogs iced the contest at the free throw line as the Hawks were unable to finish off the comeback, 71-65.
