BOWIE, MD. – Tim Hewett's career night was not enough for Chowan Men's Basketball as the Hawks fell to Bowie State in CIAA Northern Division action on Wednesday evening, 68-63.

Tim Hewett posted a career-high 30 points going 12-14 from the charity stripe.  Gus Rowland and Robert Grubbs chipped in with 11 and 10 points respectively.  Rowland tallied six assists.

HOW IT HAPPENED

First Half:

Bowie State started the contest on a 6-0 run before Tim Hewett knocked down a triple to get the Hawks on the board.  Roberts Grubbs connected from downtown to trim the early deficit, 8-6.

Gus Rowland added a pair from the stripe along with a bucket by Dino Muminovic kept the deficit minimal, 13-10.

Tim Hewett tallied the next six points for the Hawks to take the lead 16-15.  Bowie State took the lead back with a triple with seven minutes remaining in the half.  Brandon Mayhan netted a bucket to knot the contest up at 18-all.

After a small run by the Bulldogs, Gus Rowland and Tim Hewett closed the gap to one, 24-23, but the Bulldogs kept the lead with trips to the charity stripe.

Bowie State led 31-27 at the break.

Second Half:

Bowie State widened the gap to double-figures to open the second half, 40-28, with a 9-1 run.  Robert Grubbs went 1-2 from the line during the slump. 

Trevis Buckhanon ended the run with a dunk sparking an 11-2 run for the Hawks.  Dino Muminovic and Gus Rowland tallied a basket before Robert Grubbs knocked down a triple.  Tim Hewett converted from the stripe to trim the deficit to three, 42-39, at the under 15 minute media timeout.

Robert Grubbs continued to chip away following a layup by the Bulldogs with a triple off a pass from Tim Hewett.  A pair of free throws by Hewett knotted the contest up at 44-all with 11:55 remaining.

Tim Hewett and Ugljesa Portic notched buckets as Bowie State continued to push ahead, 54-49.  Brandon Mayhan hit the front end of the three-point play on the next Hawks possession.

Bowie State used a quick 8-0 run to push the advantage back to double-figures, 62-51, with 4:49 left in the contest.  Tim Hewett ended the run with an old-fashioned three-point play.  Hewett added three more from the charity stripe to close the gap, 63-57.

Tim Hewett knocked down a jumper and Gus Rowland added four points from the stripe to trim the deficit to three, 66-63.  Bowie State added a pair from the charity stripe to end the contest.

Chowan travels to Lincoln (Pa.) to continue CIAA Northern Division action on Saturday, January 27.  Tip-off is slated for 4:00pm.
