Chowan Hoops Welcome Trojans In CIAA Clash

Women's Basketball (Game Notes)

HAWKS HIGHLIGHTS
Chowan opened up CIAA Northern Division play with a win over rival Elizabeth City State last weekend.  The Hawks are 13-3 on the season and 5-1 in league action.

 Chowan stayed at ninth in the D2SIDA poll.  CU has been in the poll for seven straight weeks.

The Blue and White is led by seniors Dhyamond Crenshaw and Chantel Roberts.  Crenshaw leads the team with 18.1 points per game.  Roberts is averaging 18.6 ppg and 10.6 rebounds per game in the last five games.

Mariah Coker chips in with 12.5 points and 5.8 assists per contest.  Danielle Weldon adds to the mix with 11.2 points and 8.1 rebounds a game.

Dhyamond Crenshaw became the fourth player in Chowan's DII history to reach the 1,000 point milestone.

Virginia State is 15-1 on the season and 5-1 in CIAA play.  The Trojans are coming off their first loss of the season to nationally ranked Virginia Union last weekend.  VSU is ranked sixth in the D2SIDA Atlantic Regional poll.

Alexis Smith leads the Trojans with 19.0 points per game.  Chrisanna Green posts 12.3 ppg and 11.2 rebounds per game to pace the Trojans.

Men's Basketball (Game Notes)

HAWKS HIGHLIGHTS
Chowan improved to 7-8 on the season winning three of their last four contests.  The Hawks are coming off a thrilling overtime win against non-conference opponent, North Greenville, on Thursday.  CU is 2-4 in CIAA play this season.

The Hawks have four players in double-figures in scoring.  Tim Hewett leads the attack with 16.1 ppg with Robert Grubbs (13.3), Gus Rowland (12.8), and Demetrius Sanders (11.5).  Rowland is averaging 18.3 points per game in the past four contests.

Dino Muminovic has thrown a block party since his arrival on campus.  The senior transfer has produced 48 blocks so far this season.  Muminovic sits fifth in the nation in total blocks.

Virginia State comes into the contest ranked #16 in the D2SIDA National Poll.  The Trojans are 15-1 overall and 5-1 in CIAA play.  VSU is on an eight game winning streak since their lone loss to St. Augustine's.

Trey Brown leads the Trojans offensively with 11.3 points and 3.5 assists per game.  Five players score in double-figures this season.
