Box Score 2 CARY, NC - The Chowan University softball team picked up two wins in second day play of the Shaw University Invitational. Chowan picked up a decisive 6-0 shut out win over Clarion to open Saturday's play and followed that up with another dramatic come from behind win. This time it was a late inning 4-3 rally over Mansfield University. Chowan improved to 10-12 after Saturday's wins.
Kayla Robins continued her dominating ways in the 6-0 shut out win over Clarion. She struck out 11 Clarion batters in route to her 7th victory of the year. Freshman infielder
Brittany Parson had a banner day at the plate for the Hawks. She had a 2-3 plate performance with a double and a run scored in the win over Clarion. Her heroics in the top of the 7th inning helped propel her squad to a 4-3 second game win over Mansfield University.
Trailing 3-2 in the Hawks final at-bat, Parsons drilled her second homerun of the day. This time it was good for two runs and a 4-3 lead.
Shannon Buchanan kept Mansfield off the base paths in the bottom of the 7th to help get the Hawks their 10th win of the year.
Buchanan pitched a complete game for her third win of the season.
Danielle Baccus was perfect at the plate, going 4-4 with a run and an RBI in the win. Parson went 2-4 with three RBI and two runs scored.
Chowan will wrap up play at the Shaw Invitational on Sunday, March 5th. The Hawks are scheduled to play Barton at 12:30pm at Thomas Brooks Park.
