Box Score 3 CHARLOTTE, NC – The Chowan University softball team wrapped up play at this year's CIAA Softball Round Up on Sunday with two wins and a loss. The Hawks improved to 19-14 overall and 4-1 in the CIAA.
In game one of Sunday's set the Hawks faced off against Saint Augustine's University. Chowan trailed the Lady Falcons 2-1 heading into the top of the 4
th inning. Chowan plated two runs in the top of the 4
th and four in the top of the 7
th to pick up the 7-2 win.
Shannon Buchanan picked up her second win of the round up and her fifth win of the year after throwing a complete game. She gave up six hits and one earned run in seven innings of work for the team's 18
th win of the season.
Chowan tallied seven hits and were led by freshman
Brittany Parson. Parson had the team's only multiple hit game after going 2-4 with a pair of doubles and three runs batted in.
Kris Neal plated two runs and had a homerun in a 1-3 plate performance.
Katrina Simmons ended the 7-2 win 1-2 with two stolen bases.
The Hawks' second game of the day paired them against Livingstone College. The Hawks picked up their 4
th CIAA win after downing the Lady Blue Bears in five innings, 14-1.
Audrey Hubbard picked up the win on the mound. She threw five innings and held Livingstone to four hits. She struck out nine batters in the win.
Chowan pounded out 16 hits in the win with five players garnering multiple hit games.
Danielle Baccus,
Haley Cooper, and
Andi Blodgett all ended the game 2-2.
Tina White went 3-4 with two RBI's and
Kayla Robins went 2-3 with two runs knocked in. Ten different Hawks garnered hits in the game.
Chowan lost 1-0 to Fayetteville State to wrap up play at the CIAA Round Up. The Lady Broncos used a single run in the top of the 2
nd inning to help lift them over the Hawks. Robins struck out 15 batters but picked up the loss. She threw a complete game and gave up three hits.
FSU's Zoe Howard held the Hawks to six hits and struck out three.
Emily Stafford collected CU's only multiple hit game after going 2-3.
The Hawks will make up the Shaw game missed on Saturday due to weather at a later date.
Chowan will continue with their road stand this coming weekend with games at West Chester (3/25) and the University of the Sciences (3/26).
