Box Score 3 SALEM, VA - The Chowan University softball team picked up two wins at the West Virginia Wesleyan Tournament on Saturday at Moyer Park in Salem, Virginia. Chowan picked up a 10-0 win over Manfield, dropped a 7-1 decision to Edinboro, and ended the day with a 7-3 win over Davis & Elkins.
Kayla Robins struck out 11 Mansfield (4-2) batters in five innings of work for her 9th win of the season. She held the Mounties to one hit in the game. Chowan pounded out 12 hits in the win.
Brittany Parson had a 3-3 plate performance with three runs batted in and a homerun.
Haley Cooper and
Tina White went 2-4 at the plate. White also knocked in two runs.
Kris Neal posted three runs batted in and had a homerun.
The Hawks faced off against Edinboro (4-0) in their second game of the day. The Scots held Chowan to four hits. Parson earned the teams only multiple hit game after posting a 2-3 plate performance. She accounted for the team's lone run.
Chowan ended the day on a high note with a 7-3 win over Davis & Elkins College. The win moved the Hawks to 13-13 on the year. Robins mowed down 12 Senator batters in the win. Neal tallied two hits in four plate appearances to lead the team offensively.
Senior hurler
Kayla Robins is currently ranked 5th in the nation amongst all
NCAA D2 pitchers in strikeouts per game. She is averaging 11.6 strikeouts per game. Robins struck out a total of 23 batters in just 12 innings of work in two wins on Saturday.
The Hawks will wrap up play in the tournament on Sunday, March 12th with an 11am doubleheader against East Stroudsburg University.
