Box Score MURFREESBORO, NC - The Chowan University women's lacrosse team fell to 1-3 after suffering a 9-7 loss to Ferrum College on Wednesday afternoon. While the Hawks scored four goals over the final 10 minutes of play, they couldn't beat the clock, running out of time in their comeback attempt. Ferrum improved to 2-0 after Wednesday's match.
Ferrum's Kaitlyn Ramsey got her team on the board first just under two minutes into the match for a 1-0 lead. CU's
Jasmine Latney answered under a minute later when
Alexandria Hammonds found an open Latney in the crease for a quick score and 1-1 tie. Ferrum went on to score three more goals before
Tashana Barnett found the back of the net to cut the Panther lead to 4-2.Trailing 5-2,
Jennifer Caird added another score before the half to cut the Panther lead to 5-3 at the half.
Ferrum opened the second half with four unanswered goals to take a 9-3 lead. CU's
Heather Orell notched back to back scores for Chowan to cut the lead to 9-5 with just under ten minutes left in the match. Caird accounted for an unassisted goal at the 7:16 mark of the second period to make the score 9-6. Hammonds scored a goal in the last three minutes of play to cut the Panther lead to 9-7. CU's defense kept Ferrum out of the net for the last ten minutes of play but the Hawks ran out of time in regulation.
Orell and Caird accounted for two goals each. Hammonds scored a goal, handed out an assist, and collected six draw controls.
Shaena Ravenell collected eight saves through sixty minutes of play.
Chowan will get back to Conference Carolinas play on Saturday, March 4th when they play host to Emmanuel College. First draw is set for 12:00pm at Hawks Field.
