Box Score MURFREESBORO - The Chowan University women's basketball team dropped a 75-62 game to CIAA Northern Division opponent Virginia State University on Wednesday night. The Hawks, who came into the game averaging 76 points an outing, were held to 62 points and 37% shooting on the night.
Chowan trailed 22-12 at the end of the first quarter but rallied back to take a narrow 27-26 lead into the halftime period. Chowan held the Lady Trojans to just four points in the second quarter. Virginia State came out of the gate to start the third quarter, gaining a 51-39 third quarter lead. Virginia State University shot 57% (9-16) from the floor in the third quarter to help spread their lead to 12 points. The Hawks battled to stay in the game in the final quarter of the game, cutting the Lady Trojan lead to six points with just over six minutes to play in the game. However Chowan's rally fell short and the Lady Trojans would go on to claim the key CIAA Northern Division victory.

Jordan Payne scored 10 points and grabbed 18 rebounds.
Mariah Coker dropped 15 points and handed out three assists while
Dhyamond Crenshaw had 12 points in the game.
For Virginia State, Nandi Taylor scored a game-high 25 points.
The Hawks will hit the court again on Saturday, February 11th, at Bowie State University in a 2:00pm tip off.
