Box Score 2 GAFFNEY, SC - The Chowan University softball team fell to 0-4 on the year after suffering a doubleheader loss at Limestone College on Saturday afternoon. The Hawks suffered a 2-0 loss in the first game and a 5-1 loss in the night cap game.
Chowan got another solid pitching performance from senior hurler
Kayla Robins but the offense couldn't produce the runs it needed to keep them in the game. Limestone got on the board first in the bottom of the first inning after an error and a wild pitch. They iced the game with another run in the 4th inning. Limestone's pitching held the Hawks to just three hits in the game. Robins threw a complete game, giving up six hits and two runs and striking out a banner 11 Saints batters.
In the nightcap, Shannon Buchanon got the nod on the mound. She threw a complete game, giving up 11 hits and five earned runs. She struck out two batters in the game.
With the Saints on the top of Chowan 1-0 in the top of the 3rd inning,
Haley Cooper drove in
Kris Neal from second base to knot the game at 1-1. Limestone busted the tie in the bottom of the frame by scoring two runs and taking a 3-1 lead. The went onto add another two runs in the 5th for the eventual 5-1 win.
Chowan tallied six hits as a team with
Katrina Simmons going 2-4 at the plate. Cooper, Neal,
Tina White, and
Lindsey Stigler all had one hit. Buchanon (0-2) was credited with the loss.
Chowan will wrap up their six game road trip with a doubleheader at Lenior-Rhyne University on Sunday, February 5th. First pitch is slated for 1:00pm.
