Box Score 2 TIGERVILLE, SC - The Chowan University softball team dropped their season opening doubleheader to North Greenville University on Friday afternoon. The Hawks dropped the first game of the doubleheader 2-0 and the nightcap 5-2.
The Hawks were held to just one hit in the opening game. The Tigers got on the board first in the game in the bottom of the third inning to take a 1-0 lead. The added to their lead with another run in the bottom of the fifth inning.
Katrina Simmons picked up the Hawks lone hit with a double.
Kayla Robins faced 25 Tiger batters, scattering five hits and striking out nine batters.
Chowan bounced back in the night cap, striking first in the game when
Danielle Baccus drilled a homerun to left field in the top of the second inning. North Greenville answered in their next at-bat with a five-run second inning. That would be too much for the Hawks to overcome, getting the eventual 5-2 loss. Shannon Buchanon drove in the second run of the game in the top of the 5th inning on a single, scoring
Shelby Griffis from third.
Audrey Hubbard got the nod on the mound for the Hawks in the second game. She threw 2.0 innings and gave up five runs and struck out two. Buchanon came in to toss the rest of the game, scattering two hits and shutting the Tigers out. She also struck out five batters.Hubbard was credited with the loss in game two.
The Hawks completed two of their six weekend road games today. Next up they travel to Limestone College for a Saturday, 12:00pm, 2:00pm doubleheader. They wrap up the road trip with a two game series at Lenoir-Rhyne on Saturday.
