Box Score MURFREESBORO- The Chowan University softball team took on Queens University (Charlotte) and Nyack on Saturday afternoon.  The Hawks fell to the Royals 5-2 in extra innings before the nightcap against Nyack was suspended due to darkness.  Chowan stands 3-11 heading into play on Sunday.

The Hawks struck first in the opening contest, plating a run in their first at-bat using Danielle Baccus' RBI groundout.  A Chowan error in the top of the seventh led to a run for Queens.  The Hawks were unable to answer back offensively in their half of the frame, sending the contest into extra innings.
The Royals used an RBI single by Brooke Sanford, an error and a two-run single by Kelly Winter to pull away 5-1 in the top of the eighth.  Chowan answered with one run behind Katrina Simmon's RBI single, but it was not enough to overcome the deficit. 

Sanford and Winter both had two hits for Queens with Winter knocking in three RBI.  Evie Scott picked up the win on the mound after surrendering one earned run in eight innings of work.

Chowan was held to four hits in the contest.  Simmons, Tina White, Haley Cooper, and Brittany Parson both recorded one hit in the setback.   Kayla Robins took the loss for Chowan after allowing five runs (one earned) off of seven hits.  She struck out 12 in the contest. 

In the nightcap, Tina White's single and a bases-loaded walk gave the Hawks two runs in their first at-bat.  Nyack answered with one run in the second and one in the third to knot the score 2-2.  The Hawks plated one run in the bottom of the third after an error by the Warriors, but a three-run fifth for Nyack left Chowan trailing 5-3.  An RBI double by Haley Cooper and RBI single by Baccus knotted the score in the sixth.   After a scoreless seventh inning, the game was suspended due to darkness.

Chowan will take on Queens on Sunday at 12pm and will conclude Saturday's game against NYACK at 2pm.
