Box Score MOUNT OLIVE, NC - The Chowan University women's lacrosse team suffered a 19-1 loss to the University of Mount Olive on Wednesday afternoon in their 2017 season debut. The Hawks, playing in the school's first-ever match as a member of Conference Carolinas, were out shot 40-2 in the match. Chowan opens the season at 0-1 while UMO improves to 3-0 on the year.
The University of Mount Olive got on the board first in the match just inside the 29th minute of play when Jackie Kaderabek found the back of the net. The Trojans went on to score six more goals before the Hawks answered.
Heather Orell put Chowan on the board at the 17:08 mark of the first period to cut the Trojan lead to 7-1. The Trojans went on to score seven more unanswered goals and took a 14-1 lead into halftime break.
The CU defense stepped up to hold the Trojans to five second half goals but the first half deficit proved to be too much for Chowan to mount a comeback, falling with the eventual 19-1 score.
Shaena Ravenell was credited with the loss in goal. She collected 10 saves in 40 shots faced in 60 minutes of play. Orell and
Alexandria Hammonds recorded shots in the match.
The Hawks (0-1) will return to action on February 22nd when they travel to Barton College for another Conference Carolinas match. First draw is slated for 3:00pm in Wilson, North Carolina.
Chowan will make their home season debut on Saturday, February 25th when they play host to Alderson Broaddus University in a 12:00pm match.
