MURFREESBORO, N.C. – The Chowan Men's Basketball team dropped a non-conference game against Mount Olive on the final possession as the Trojans stole a 65-64 win over the Hawks on Wednesday evening.

Brandon Mayhan posted a career-high 17 points to pace the Hawks on offense. Tim Hewett (13), Gus Rowland (12), and Robert Grubbs (11) chipped in with double-figures.
Dino Muminovic notched 10 boards and four blocks. Gus Rowland added six assists.
The Hawks were a perfect 7-7 from the charity stripe.
HOW IT HAPPENED
First Half:
Chowan had the momentum early in the contest jumping out to a 20-11 lead. Tim Hewett started off the Hawks scoring early with a three ball. Robert Grubbs and Brandon Mayhan got in the action with a bucket each. The Trojans would tie the contest up at 9-all and 11-all before a 9-0 run expanded the lead.
Gus Rowland started the run with a pair of layups and Robert Grubbs knocked down a jumper and a trey to end the run forcing a Mount Olive timeout.
Following the timeout, Chowan's lead continued to grow as back-to-back layups by Gus Rowland saw the Hawks' advantage swell to 15, 29-14, with 3:46 to play in the half.
Mount Olive would start to chip away at their deficit trimming it to single-digits with back-to-back treys before Gus Rowland connected from the floor to end the first half leading 37-27.
Second Half:
Momentum shifted in the Trojans' favor cutting their deficit to single-digits to open the second half. Brandon Mayhan drained a three to push the lead back to double-figures for the moment.
A quick 5-0 run by the Trojans was halted as Tim Hewett finished the one-handed slam on a fastbreak. UMO continued to chip away with another quick burst but this time Dino Muminovic was on the receiving end of a Tim Hewett connection for a dunk.
Gus Rowland and Tim Hewett pushed the Hawks back to a seven point lead, 56-49, with 5:56 remaining in the contest. Following a pair of freebies for the Trojans, Brandon Mayhan pushed the Hawks' advantage to nine, 62-53.
Three straight triples by the Trojans knotted the contest up at 62-all with 45 seconds remaining.
Tim Hewett would put the Hawks up 64-62 with 39 seconds remaining. The Trojans would look for the go-ahead basket as UMO missed two straight attempts but grabbed their own misses.
Mount Olive called a timeout with nine ticks left on the clock to draw up a play. The Trojans faked a hand-off and found himself wide open behind the arc for the game-winner as the Hawks weren't able to get it past mid-court as time expired.
