RALEIGH, N.C. – The Chowan Men's Basketball team dropped a CIAA contest to St. Augustine's 71-58 on the road Monday evening.

Robert Grubbs led the Hawks with 17 points. Tim Hewett notched 16 points and nine boards.
Trevis Buckhanon tallied eight points and six rebounds. Dino Muminovic posted a team-high five assists.
HOW IT HAPPENED
First Half:
Chowan and St. Augustine's traded baskets throughout the opening portion of the half. Brandon Mayhan started the scoring for the Hawks knocking down a trey. Trevis Buckhanon knocked down two buckets early before Tim Hewett notched a basket. Robert Grubbs drained a three to give the Hawks a slight lead, 12-11.
Demetrius Sanders knocked down a pair from the charity stripe to keep the Hawks ahead midway through the half. Sanders knocked down a trey followed by a Tim Hewett layup kept the Hawks in front. The Falcons trimmed the deficit to two, 20-18, with a pair of triples.
St. Augustine's regained the lead for the moment with another three before Robert Grubbs handed the lead back to the Hawks with the answer three. The Falcons would tie things at 23-all before the media timeout.
Out of the media timeout, St. Augustine's took the lead back with a layup. Tim Hewett notched two buckets to tie the contest up at 27-all. The back-and-forth battle continued as the Falcons regained the lead with two minutes to play in the half.
The Falcons grabbed their largest lead of the contest with 1:45 remaining knocking down two freebies following a Chowan timeout. Robert Grubbs tallied a layup before the Falcons took a 33-29 lead at the intermission.
Second Half:
St. Augustine's would widen their margin coming out of the halftime break with an 11-0 run to take a double-digit lead. Robert Grubbs ended the run with a layup. Dino Muminovic knocked down a trey followed by a layup by Trevis Buckhanon trimmed the deficit to 46-36.
Out of the media timeout, Robert Grubbs continued the run for the Hawks with a layup. Brandon Mayhan trimmed the Falcon lead to eight, 49-41, before a layup pushed the deficit back to double-figures.
The Falcons extended their lead before Brandon Mayhan tallied a bucket and Robert Grubbs knocked down a trey to trim the deficit to 60-48. Grubbs knocked down a jumper along with a layup by Tim Hewett closed the gap back under double-figures, 61-52, with 6:23 remaining.
Trevis Buckhanon and Dino Muminovic added a pair from the stripe but couldn't trim the deficit as the Falcons led 69-56 with just over a minute to play.
Chowan was held without a field goal until Tim Hewett ended the six minute drought with a dunk after a steal before falling 71-58 to the Falcons.

Chowan will return to the floor on January 4 as the Hawks host Johnson C. Smith. Tip-off is slated for 7:30pm.
