HOW IT HAPPENED

First Quarter:

Chowan led 6-3 in the opening minutes of the contest before Catawba used a 12-3 run to lead 15-9 after the first ten minutes.

Jada Lee and Dhyamond Crenshaw grabbed early baskets before Jada Lee widened the early gap to 6-3 just three minutes in.

Danielle Weldon added a free throw followed by a Chantel Roberts layup ended the scoring in the quarter.

Second Quarter:

Dhyamond Crenshaw and Chantel Roberts tallied baskets to cut into the Catawba lead in the second quarter.

Chowan continued to chip away at the deficit going on a small 5-0 run.  Danielle Weldon converted from the charity stripe before Chantel Roberts finished up the old-fashioned three point play.

Catawba would keep the distance at five, before two Chantel Roberts' triples knotted the contest at 30-all.  Dhyamond Crenshaw hit a jumper with five seconds left to keep the contest tied but Catawba knocked down a three at the buzzer to lead 35-32 at the break.

Third Quarter:

The Hawks would see their first lead of the contest since the early going as Dhyamond Crenshaw opened the half with a jumper off a Mariah Coker pass.  Jada Lee drilled back-to-back threes including a four-point play to tie and give the Hawks a 41-37 lead at the 6:50 mark of the quarter.

Chowan and Catawba continued to trade the lead down the stretch of the quarter before a Catawba three allowed the Indians to lead 50-47 heading to the final quarter.

Fourth Quarter:

The Indians looked to run away with the contest pushing their advantage to seven with 7:39 to play.

Chowan used a 7-1 run to cut the deficit to one, 61-60, two minutes later.  Joanne Williams started the run off with a fastbreak layup.  An Indian turnover allowed Jada Lee to score on a layup at the other end.  Chantel Roberts capped off the run with a trey from the wing.

The Hawks were unable to regain the lead as the shots were not falling for Chowan.  Catawba would lead by eight, 71-63 with 1:04 remaining in the contest.

Chantel Roberts knocked down three straight triples to offset the Catawba free throws to bring the contest back to a one point contest, 73-72 with seven seconds remaining.
