FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. – The Chowan Women's Basketball team bounced back to defeat St. Augustine's, 85-64, in the opening contest of the FSU Broncos Thanksgiving Classic on Friday afternoon in non-conference action.

Dhyamond Crenshaw and Chantel Roberts led the charge for the Hawks with 23 and 22 points each.
Joanne Williams her third double-double of the season with 12 points and 12 boards. Mariah Coker chipped in with 12 points and seven assists.
The Hawks' defense forced 25 Falcons turnovers recording 12 steals.
HOW IT HAPPENED
First Quarter:
The Hawks saw an early 10-0 run that led to a 25-16 first quarter advantage. Chantel Roberts scored the first five points for Chowan draining a three to start the contest. Dhyamond Crenshaw added a layup followed by Mariah Coker knocking down a three forcing a Falcon timeout.
Following the timeout, St. Augustine's notched their first bucket of the night before Joanne Williams added a layup and another Chantel Roberts' triple.
Chantel Roberts knocked down her third trey of the quarter to lead 18-4 with 4:13 remaining before a Falcon 8-0 run cut the deficit to 18-12.
Joanne Williams' three-point play ended the rally. Williams added another bucket and two freebies by Danielle Weldon finished the scoring in the quarter for the Hawks.
Second Quarter:
Jada Lee opened the quarter with a bucket with Dhyamond Crenshaw chipped in with four points. The Hawks continued to lead by double-figures midway through the quarter as Chowan and St. Augustine's traded baskets.
Back-to-back baskets by Dhyamond Crenshaw and Joanne Williams pushed the CU advantage to 14, 39-25.
St. Augustine's cut the deficit to nine, 41-32 with under a minute left in the half as the Hawks led 43-33 at the break.
Third Quarter:
After trading baskets to open the half, Chowan used a 13-0 run as the Hawks led 64-40. With 7:01 left in the quarter, Mariah Coker sparked the rally with a layup and a three. Two free throws continued the run as the defense amped up grabbing three buckets forcing the Falcons to turn the ball over before mid-court.
Following a small run by the Falcons, Chowan ended the quarter on a 10-0 run to lead 74-45. Jada Lee knocked down a three before a forced turnover led to a Dhyamond Crenshaw fastbreak layup. Roberts Chantel and Mariah Coker followed suit.
Fourth Quarter:
The Hawks would maintain their lead tallying free throws through the early portion of the quarter.
St. Augustine's used a 9-2 run to cut the deficit to 82-62 before Sydnee Neal chipped in with a bucket with under a minute to play.
Alyssa Humes knocked down a jumper to end the contest as the Hawks cruised to the 86-65 victory.
