MURFREESBORO, N.C. – The Chowan Men's Basketball team fought back from an early deficit as the Hawks downed the Apprentice School 94-74 in non-conference action on Wednesday evening.

Chowan posted four players in double-figures with three players notching 20+ points on the evening. Demetrius Sanders led the scoring with 22 points. Gus Rowland and Time Hewett tallied 21 and 20 points respectively. Robert Grubbs chipped in with 13 points off the bench.
Demetrius Sanders stuffed the boxscore with nine boards, five blocks, four steals, two assists and three dunks. Gus Rowland notched his first career double-double hauling in 10 rebounds to go with his six assists and four steals.
Chowan shot 52.9% from the floor finding their rhythm inside the paint leading to 54 points including 34 points in transition.
HOW IT HAPPENED
First Half:
The Hawks and Builders traded points for the early portion of the half. Demetrius Sanders started off the contest with a jumper to put CU on the board. Gus Rowland followed suit with an old fashioned three-point play.
The Builders went on an 8-0 run to see their lead increase to double-figures, 19-9 forcing a Chowan timeout with 14:42 remaining. Chowan and Apprentice School continued to swap baskets midway through the half.
A block by Demetrius Sanders at the 9:40 mark of the half sparked a 28-5 run that propelled the Hawks to a 49-38 halftime advantage.
Following the block, Tim Hewett scored on back-to-back fastbreak layups to cut the deficit to six, 31-25, to force a Builders' timeout.
Demetrius Sanders and Gus Rowland would finish the half with three buckets each as Rowland put the exclamation point on the run with a three from behind the arc at the buzzer.
Second Half:
The Builders would not go away quietly in the opening minutes of the half as the Apprentice school knocked down two triples to cut the Hawks' lead to seven, 53-46.
Robert Grubbs drained a three to spark a 10-2 run capped off by Tim Hewett converting the three-point play going coast-to-coast.
The Hawks would keep the lead at a manageable distance never going below nine points after the 10 minute media timeout.
Chowan finished off the half on a 21-7 run as the Builders went 2-11 down the stretch.
