MURFREESBORO, N.C. – The Chowan Men's Basketball team notched another dominating win to start the season as the Hawks crushed Mid-Atlantic Christian 96-52 at home on Friday evening.

Demetrius Sanders was nearly perfect in the contest with a school record 12-12 from the floor for 27 points. The only miss for Sanders came at the charity stripe going 1-2. Sanders added eight rebounds, two blocks and three steals in 20 minutes of action.
Tim Hewett tallied 17 points, while Diamante Brown scored 10 points off the bench.
The Hawks would shoot 66.7% from the floor in the first half. Mid-Atlantic Christian shot 25.4% from the floor in the contest as the Hawks held the Mustangs to 14.3% in the opening half.
HOW IT HAPPENED
First Half:
Chowan was off to a hot start racing out to a 31-6 lead. Demetrius Sanders featured the first seven points for the Hawks knocking down a triple to start the contest. MACU cut the deficit to 7-6 at the 17:08 mark with a three before scoring again from the floor at the 8:35 mark.
Trevis Buckhanon and Tim Hewett brought the crowd to their feet recording back-to-back dunks.
Tim Hewett would put the Hawks up by 20, 26-6, just 8:32 into the contest knocking down threes on two straight possessions. Gus Rowland finished the rally with an old-fashioned three point play.
Gus Rowland assisted Tim Hewett on layups before the Mustangs hit their second field goal of the contest.
Demetrius Sanders would spark another run, this time a 17-0 run, as Sanders finished above the rim with a windmill dunk. During the run, Sanders scored the majority of his points scoring 10 points capping off the run with a triple.
Dino Muminovic, Robert Grubbs, and Diamante Brown scored to close out the half with the Hawks leading 56-15.
Second Half:
The Hawks slowed things down in the second half and allowed some younger players some collegiate experience.
CU used small runs of six, six, and eight throughout the half as the Hawks extended the lead to 51, 71-20 with over 15 minutes remaining in the contest.
Jarvez Ellis scored six of the eight points in the final run for the Hawks. Diamante Brown tallied seven points down the stretch.

Chowan heads on the road for the first time this season as the Hawks make the return trip to face the Apprentice School before the holiday on Wednesday, November 22. Tip-off is at 3pm.
