HICKORY, N.C. – Late free throws down the stretch secured a 74-68 Chowan Women's Basketball victory over Lenoir-Rhyne in a non-conference contest on Monday evening.

Five Hawks recorded double-figures scoring efforts. Dhyamond Crenshaw paced the Hawks with 17 points. Joanne Williams notched her second straight double-double with 10 points and 12 boards.
Danielle Weldon chipped in with 14 points and eight boards. Jada Lee (13) and Mariah Coker (11) also tallied double-digit points.
The Hawks' defense forced 19 turnovers in the contest and limited their own errors to seven.
HOW IT HAPPENED
First Quarter:
Mariah Coker sparked an early 10-4 run for the Hawks by knocking down two threes. The Hawks' defense would force seven turnovers in the early going forcing a Bears timeout as back-to-back scores by Jada Lee and Chantel Roberts led the charge. The Hawks continued to apply pressure as Chantel Roberts knocked down a triple to push the lead to 15-8.
Play from behind the arc continued as Danielle Weldon's triple pushed the Hawks' lead 22-13. Dhyamond Crenshaw end the opening period with a finish at the other end as Mariah Coker forced a turnover to start the fast break. The Hawks led 24-15 after the opening 10 minutes of play.
Second Quarter:
Danielle Weldon opened up the quarter with a mini 5-0 run starting with a layup and a straight away triple to extend the Hawks' lead to 29-15.
The Hawks continued to push the effort from behind the arc as Jada Lee found the trailing Chantel Roberts for the triple from the left wing to lead 34-20 with just under seven minutes to play in the quarter.
L-R countered with a 10-3 run following the media timeout to close the gap to 37-30 before Danielle Weldon ended the run with a jumper just inside the arc.
Joanne Williams finished the quarter hitting a layup and collecting two points from the charity stripe as the Hawks led 43-34 at the break.
Third Quarter:
Coming out of the locker room, Chowan extend their lead back to double-figures as Jada Lee knocked down a triple followed by a layup by Dhyamond Crenshaw.
The Hawks would maintain their double-digit lead in a slower paced quarter as the Hawks were outscored 14-12. The Bears would hit a three with under a minute to play to cut the deficit to 55-48.
Fourth Quarter:
The Hawks would push the lead back to double-digits, 59-48, to open the final stanza grabbing two free throws by Danielle Weldon and a jumper by Dhyamond Crenshaw.
Leading 63-52 after two freebies by Joanne Williams, L-R scored 4-0 straight to cut the deficit back to single digits, 63-56, with 4:02 remaining.
CU pushed the lead back to 11, 67-56, after Mariah Coker knocked down a three with 2:22 remaining forcing a Bears' timeout.
The Bears rallied out of the short break to cut into the deficit going on a 12-3 run to bring the contest to 70-68 with 23 ticks left on the clock.
Chowan would go 4-6 from the line as Jada Lee and Dhyamond Crenshaw sealed the win for the Hawks.
