CHARLOTTE, NC - The Chowan University basketball teams are set to tip it up against CIAA crossover rival Johnson C. Smith University on Thursday night. The CIAA doubleheader is the first of three straight CIAA crossover road games for the Hawks.
The women will tip off at 5:30pm at Brayboy Gymnasium on the campus of Johnson C. Smith University. The Hawks enter the game at 10-3 overall and 3-0 in CIAA crossover play. Chowan is currently tied at the top of the CIAA Northern Division with Bowie State University (11-2, 3-0). Johnson. C. Smith sits atop of the CIAA Southern Division rankings with an 8-4 overall record and a 1-1 CIAA record.
Jordan Payne currently paces the Hawks offensively with 15.2 points an outing, putting her fifth in the overall CIAA women's statistical rankings in points per game. Payne leads the team in rebounds per game at 11.5 and is second in the league in rebounds per outing.
Dhyamond Crenshaw adds 10.8 points a game as well s 5.5 rebounds and 1.3 blocks per game.

The Hawks have won seven home game this season, including three straight over CIAA South opponents in December. Chowan sits atop of the CIAA Northern Division currently while Johnson C. Smith ranks third in the CIAA Southern Division at 5-7 overall and 1-1 in league play.
Chowan has gotten stellar play from seniors
Jeremy Smith and
Kevin Kuteyi this season. Kuteyi, a two-time CIAA Newcomer of the Week, currently leads the team's offensive efforts with 16.4 points a game. Smith chips in 15.5 points an outing and 8.7 boards a game. All five Chowan starters are averaging double-figures. Besides Kuteyi and Smith,
Marco Haskins is dumping in 13.2 points a game, while guard
Carlos Arroyo adds 10.1 points an outing, and
Joe Goodwin averages 10.0 a game.
