Box Score PETERSBURG, VA - A normally explosive Chowan offense was stifled on the road on Wednesday night as the suffered a 80-54 setback to Virginia State University. The Hawks, who averaged nearly 80 points an outing going into the game, were held to just 54 in the loss.
Virginia State took control of the game early in front of their home crowd at the Multipurpose Center. The Trojans took a commanding 49-23 lead into halftime, which set the tone for the remainder of the game.
Chowan shot 41% from the floor in the game while the Trojans hit shots at a 58% clip.
For Chowan,
Jeremy Smith scored 12 points and
Tim Hewett hit for nine points. Hewett was 3-3 from the floor, including 2-2 from beyond the arc.
The Hawks fall to 10-5 on the year and 4-3 in the CIAA. Chowan will host Bowie State University on Saturday, Jan. 21
st at 4:00pm at the Helms Center in their next outing.
