Box Score WINSTON-SALEM, NC - The Chowan University men's basketball team suffered a tough 80-75 loss in a back-and-forth game against CIAA cross-divisional opponent, Winston-Salem State University. The Hawks fall to 10-4 overall and 4-2 in CIAA play following the loss. Winston-Salem State University moved to 6-9 overall and 2-4 in league play.
The thriller of a game featured 11 ties and 13 different lead changes. iHowever, t was the Rams who would come away with the eventual five-point win. WSSU's Junius Barnes hit a three pointer to cut a one point deficit into a two point lead at 75-73 with 1:43 to play in the game. The Hawks failed to scored on their next two possessions and were forced to foul, sending the Rams to the line late in the game. Robert Colon hit 3-4 from the charity stripe and accounted for lay-up to score the final five and what would winning points for the Rams.
Marco Haskins led all scorers in the game after coming off the bench to score 20 points.
Kevin Kuteyi chipped in 15 points, dished out five assists, and grabbed five rebounds.
Jeremy Smith dropped 17 points and
Joe Goodwin scored 14 points and grabbed five boards.
The Hawks shot 51% (24-47) from the floor while the Rams hit shots at a 53% (31-58) clip.
Chowan will get back to CIAA Northern Divisional play on Wednesday, January 18th, against Virginia State University.
