Box Score MURFREESBORO- The Chowan University women's lacrosse team suffered a 16-9 setback to Coker College on Wednesday afternoon.  The Cobras improve to 7-6 on the season with the win while the Hawks end the year with a 1-13 overall record.  Wednesday marked Senior Day for the inaugural women's lacrosse class.  Molly Clever, Cindy Escobar, Haley Haggard, Adriea Herndon, Evelyn McGrue,  Arlayne Rattley, and Mackenzie Reid were recognized prior to the start of the contest. 

Herndon and Reid each scored three goals in the loss for Chowan.  Victoria Baez-Quiroz, Jasmine Latney, and Tyra Simons each recorded one goal for the Hawks.  Herndon and Rattley had one assist apeice in the setback. 

Claudia Jenkins led all players in the game with four goals in the win.  Mackenzie Baker and Faith Kent each notched three goals for Coker.  Haley McCusker and Marabeth Durden found the back of the net twice for the Cobras with Karah Huntsinger and Cierra Davis each record one goal in the victory. 

Haggard recorded 16 saves in goal for the Hawks. 

Baker put the Hawks on the board eight minutes into the contest.  Herndon found the back of the net on a free position shot one minute later.  The Cobras added two scores to pull away 3-1 before Reid scored to pull Chowan within striking distance at the 12:24 mark.  Coker pulled away 6-2 but Reid answered with a goal on a free position shot to cut the deficit in half.  The Cobras scored twice before the end of the first half to take an 8-3 lead heading into halftime. 

Coker opened the second half with three unanswered goals before scores by Baez-Quiroz, Latney, and Herndon made the score 11-6.  Goals by Jenkins and Baker with less than seven minutes left in the game made the score 13-6.  Reid and Simons responded with one goal apiece before three goals by the Cobras left Chowan trailing 16-8.  Herndon found the back of the net at the horn to make the score 16-9.

The Hawks return to action in 2017.
