Box Score YOUNG HARRIS, GA- The Chowan University women's lacrosse team suffered a 23-3 setback against Young Harris College on Saturday afternoon. The Hawks slide to 1-9 on the season with the loss while the Mountain Lions improve to 7-4 with the victory.
Jaclyn Kernohan and Taylor Lincoln led all players in the game with four goals apiece in the win. Kendra Parenteau notched three goals for Young Harris while Nicole Kernohan and Kaylynn Roach notched two goals apiece. Maddie Peek, Breanna Farmer, Sarah Bialecki, Jordana Freitas, Rachel Lepine, Ivey Franklin, and Meghan Tonnsesn, and Erika Cross each found the back of the net once over the course of the contest for the Mountain Lions.
Cindy Escobar led the effort for the Hawks with two goals in the setback while
Mackenzie Reid also added a score for the Chowan Blue and White.
Haley Haggard made four saves in goal for the Hawks.
The Mountain Lions jumped to a quick 7-0 lead using goals by five different players before the midway point of the first half. Escobar put the Hawks on the board at the 17:15 mark using an assist by Reid. Young Harris responded with six unanswered goals to take a commanding 13-1 lead with just under six minutes left before the halftime break. Escobar scored an unassisted goal with 1:20 on the clock but a late score by Tonnesen for the Mountain Lions left the Hawks looking to claw back from a 14-2 deficit heading into halftime.
Reid opened the second half with an unassisted goal for the Chowan Blue and White. Young Harris closed out the contest with nine straight goals by seven different players, handing the Hawks the 23-3 setback.
Chowan travels to Rome, Georgia on Monday afternoon to take on Shorter College. First draw is slated for 12:00pm.
