Box Score RALEIGH, NC- The Chowan University softball team picked up a 5-1 win over Shaw University at the CIAA Round-Up on Saturday afternoon. The Hawks improve to 15-12 on the season with the victory while the Lady Bears drop to 4-17 on the year with the setback.
After four scoreless innings of play, a triple by
Rachel Clark, single by
Tina White, and groundout by
Haley Cooper led to three runs in the top of the fifth for Chowan. Chris Ngeve hit an RBI single in the bottom of the frame to put Shaw on the board. Cooper's two-run double in the seventh gave the Hawks all they would need to secure the 5-1 victory.
Chowan tallied eight hits in the win led by Clark and
Kris Neal with two hits apiece. Cooper recorded three RBI in the contest. The Lady Bears mustered three hits in the loss with Chakiryn Jackson tallying two hits.
Delanie Winslow picked up the win on the mound. She threw all seven innings in the game while recording 12 strikeouts. Chyna Gross took the loss for Shaw. She surrendered five runs (five earned) and eight hits in the setback.
Chowan concludes play at the CIAA Round-Up on Sunday. The Hawks take on Winston-Salem State University at 11am and Fayetteville State University at 1:30pm.
