Box Score SALEM, VA- The Chowan University softball team concluded play at the West Virginia Wesleyan Tournament on Sunday afternoon with a 9-3 loss against West Virginia Wesleyan. The Hawks slide to 11-12 on the season while the Bobcats improve to 18-2 on the year with the win.
West Virginia Wesleyan scored three runs in their first at-bat after a three-run homerun by Olivia Gore. Sara Scoone's RBI single in the second gave the Bobcats a 4-0 lead. A homerun by
Haley Cox in the fourth and
Tina White's solo homerun in the fifth put the Hawks on the board but Morgan Bruce's three-run blast left Chowan trailing 7-2 in the bottom of the frame.
West Virginia Wesleyan plated two additional runs in the seventh with Carly Gregory's RBI single and a groundout by Scoone.
Katrina Simmons scored in the bottom of the seventh but the damage was done and the Bobcats secured the 9-3 win.
Hannah Vet picked up the win on the mound for West Virginia Wesleyan while
Kayla Robins took the loss for the Chowan Blue and White.
