Box Score 2 SALEM, VA- The Chowan University softball team dropped a pair of games on Saturday afternoon at the West Virginia Wesleyan Tournament. The Hawks fell to Bloomsburg University 12-4 in the first game of the day and dropped a 4-3 decision to Wheeling Jesuit in the nightcap. Chowan moves to 11-11 on the season after Saturday's games.
In the first game, Bloomsburg scored two runs in the first using a two-run homerun by Taylor Parker. The Huskies extended their lead to 4-0 in the second and tacked on two additional runs in the third with Erica Keen's two-run blast.
Chowan took advantage of two walks and a single by
Rachel Clark to score three runs in their half of the frame to make the score 6-3. The Huskies plated four runs in the fourth and two in the fifth to take a commanding 12-3 lead.
Tori Cragan hit a solo homerun for the Hawks in the fifth but the damage was done and Bloomsburg secured the 12-4 victory.
Delanie Winslow took the loss on the mound for the Hawks while Sarah Bortner picked up the win for the Huskies.
In the second game of the day, Chowan dropped a narrow 4-3 decision to Wheeling Jesuit. The Hawks struck first in the contest, scoring two runs in the second when
Katrina Simmons was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded and
Tina White recorded an RBI groundout.
Wheeling Jesuit knotted the score in the third after RBI singles from Cassie Holstein and Molly Welsch. A Chowan error led to two additional runs for the Cardinals in the fourth, leaving the Hawks trailing 4-2.
Kris Neal reached on an error in the fifth, giving the Hawks an additional run but it was not enough to overcome the deficit.
Kayla Robins took the loss on the mound while Mallory Chapman was credited with the win for the Cardinals.
